The Today's Bosnian Version (TBV) is a modern translation of the Holy Bible into Bosnian based directly on the original Hebrew and Greek texts.
The goal of the project is simple: to remove unnecessary barriers between the reader and the Word of God.
Many readers, especially younger generations, struggle with older Bible translations because they encounter unfamiliar expressions, ancient measurements, obsolete vocabulary, and cultural references that interrupt the reading process. The TBV was developed to solve that problem.
Instead of forcing the reader to adapt to the text, the translation seeks to bring the meaning of the biblical text into today's Bosnian language while remaining faithful to the original Scriptures.
A reader-driven translation
The central idea behind the TBV is reader ownership.
Pastors often point out that a sermon becomes effective only when the congregation takes ownership of the message. The same principle applies to Bible translation.
Scripture has the greatest impact when readers feel that the text speaks directly to them, in a language they understand and in concepts that are familiar to their daily lives.
The TBV was designed to create that connection.
You don't need an interpreter
Ancient measurements can easily become obstacles to understanding.
How much is a cubit?
How much money is a shekel?
How far is a stadion?
Instead of interrupting the reading experience, the TBV translates these measurements into modern equivalents:
- Monetary values are converted into Convertible Marks (KM).
- Length measurements are expressed in meters, centimeters, and kilometers.
- Time references are presented in modern terms.
The goal is simple: readers should not need an interpreter to understand the text.
Careful translation of difficult passages
The TBV does not simply replace one word with another.
Every verse is translated by first determining its meaning within its historical, linguistic, and cultural context.
Particular attention is given to passages that are difficult to understand in a modern setting.
One example is Jesus' statement that believers are the "salt of the earth." Understanding the original cultural setting behind this expression helps modern readers grasp the meaning that Jesus intended to communicate to His disciples.
The TBV translation process emphasizes discovering the meaning behind the words rather than merely reproducing their literal form.
Two layers of manual proofreading
Every passage undergoes multiple stages of review before publication.
The process begins with direct translation from the original Hebrew and Greek texts.
Literal expressions are carefully examined and adapted into natural Bosnian while preserving the meaning of the original passage.
The translated text then undergoes two separate rounds of manual proofreading.
The first proofreader reviews the text for semantic accuracy and consistency.
The second proofreader examines the language itself, checking grammar, spelling, and style.
The TBV team intentionally relies on manual review because automated spell-checking cannot recognize omitted words, repeated expressions, or errors that affect meaning.
Finally, every passage receives a final editorial review before publication.
Comfortable, uninterrupted reading
The TBV was created with readability in mind.
Careful attention is given to sentence structure, verb tense, rhythm, and language flow.
The result is a translation that allows readers to move through entire biblical books without repeatedly stopping to interpret unfamiliar words or ancient concepts.
